Feeding can be said to be the basic skill of feeding babies. Many mothers may be a little surprised when they talk about feeding: What else to pay attention to about feeding? Such a simple thing, I can do it for sure.
In fact, feeding is really not something that is completely careless. Today we will talk about feeding.
6-7 months old
Speaking of the way of feeding, the scene we can think of subconsciously is to put the spoon with the food in the baby's mouth and then take it out. There may be some additional actions: wipe the baby's mouth, use a spoon to scrape the food that overflows from the baby's mouth.
In fact, the wrong feeding will make the baby not like to eat, especially for the small-month-old baby who has just added supplementary food. Whether the feeding is appropriate or not directly affects the baby's complementary feeding state.
Now that we have started feeding, when should we stretch out the spoon? The suggestion is to wait until the baby opens his mouth or has a willingness to accept it before putting the spoon in. Do not use a spoon to pry the baby's mouth open; or sneak the spoon in while the baby is not paying attention; Or hold the baby's head to prevent the baby from moving and stick the spoon in. These will make the baby uncomfortable, and even affect the good experience of complementary food in the early stage.
Sometimes the spoon finally gets in, but the baby does not eat it is also worrying. Therefore, some family members use the method of forcibly pouring food into the baby’s mouth or scraping the food on the baby’s upper jaw for the baby to eat. The baby is not ready for food to come in, and it is more uncomfortable for the food to be scraped on the upper jaw, so retching often occurs.
Obviously, this is also a feeding method that makes the baby uncomfortable. When feeding, pay attention to the spoon straight in. After the baby eats or squeezes the food in with his mouth, take the spoon straight out and continue feeding the next bite.
How to clean?
The food is finally fed in, but clean has become a concern of many parents. They think that the babies will feel uncomfortable if get something around their mouths.
In fact, if the baby's mouth is dirty and he is not uncomfortable, there is no need to take a bite and rub it, which will affect the baby's concentration in eating complimentary food. It is recommended to avoid scraping food around your baby's mouth with a spoon. Some family members will scrape many times after feeding the baby, and the baby may even have obviously uncomfortable dodge movements, so don't scrape again.
If your baby’s mouth is really dirty, you can wipe the mouth after a few mouthfuls. Just wipe the baby's mouth. If you are worried about dirty clothes, you can put on a bib for your baby before eating supplementary food, and clean it up after eating. Don't waste your baby's limited dining chair patience on cleaning up.
8-12 months old
When the baby is 8-12 months old, grabbing a spoon, bowl, and suddenly not cooperating with feeding, mothers who have learned feeding knowledge must know that they need to add finger food for the babies.
During this period, there will be confusion in self-eating and feeding. Parents worry that their babies can’t eat much by themselves and don’t eat well, so they will put all their focus on feeding. Finger food is more like a tool to soothe the baby and make it easier for parents to feed the baby.
For example: if the baby does not accept feeding, give finger food; the baby finally calmed down to grab finger food, the parents will quickly put the spoon into the baby's mouth; seeing that the baby is eating finger food, remove the little hand from the baby's mouth and put the spoon in; put finger food next to your baby's mouth, when the baby opens his mouth, the parents will put the spoon in; keep the spoon by the baby’s mouth and run after the baby’s head, without the slightest gap...
If things go on like this, the baby will hide when he sees an adult feeding, he can't be fed at all, and he won’t eat by himself, and even refuses to go to the dining chair. At this time, the family members really started to worry.
It is better to kill this possibility in the cradle. If the baby is more willing to eat independently, it can be combined with feeding between the baby's own eating. When the baby has the action of putting food into his mouth, stop feeding him. When the baby is ready to accept the feeding after eating, we will feed him, fully respecting the baby's wishes.
Don’t stubbornly use the spoon-feeding method. In the early stage, it is not efficient for babies to eat finger food by themselves. Adults can also hand feed, and liquid foods can be sucked or straw bowls are also a good way. The method can be flexible, and a good eating mood is more important than eating.
Over 12 months old
When the baby is one year old, if we have paid attention to satisfying the baby's voluntary wishes and cultivating the baby's ability to eat independently, at this time, we may find that the baby will not accept adult feeding and just want to eat by himself. Feeding seems to have become a battle, and even the baby is a little bit thankless. Is the baby beginning to rebel when he is older?
In fact, it's the opposite, because their abilities are enough. All thanks to the previous satisfaction and ability training, the baby's ability to eat on his own is already very strong, and the efficiency is fully guaranteed. It is time for us to enjoy the fruits of labor.
Sometimes enjoying the fruits of labor is also a difficult process with reluctance, so there will be scenes where adults want to feed the babies but the babies refuse. Some families will give the toys to the baby in order to feed them more smoothly; Or the adult thinks that the baby is older and shouldn't grab it with his hands anymore. When seeing the baby grabbing the food everywhere, the adults feel very flustered.
Older babies with sufficient abilities can fully satisfy their willingness to eat independently. But the baby's ability improvement also has its own rhythm. If they are not interested in using tableware temporarily, we don't need to be too anxious. We can give the baby enough time and wait for the right time to give proper guidance.
For mothers, the more difficult thing maybe how to transform the little baby who needs our help into a big baby who can complete a meal on his own. Babies are growing, and sometimes it is enough to give them a smile of affirmative encouragement.
